As a National Board Certified second grade teacher, Brian has dedicated his fifteen-year teaching career to helping low-income and minority children in Robeson County to overcome their obstacles. That’s why they have nicknamed him “The School Daddy.” Brian has been recognized numerous times on the local, state and national level for his outstanding creativity and teaching efforts. Recently he was named the North Carolina Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year and his school received a $11,000 grant. He has received awards, such as: a Disney teacher honoree as well as being named National Second Grade Teacher of the Year by Staff Development for Educators. In addition, he has twice been named one of the top forty teachers in the nation by USA Today newspaper.
The School Daddy traveled over 50,000 miles representing the 2.7 million members of the National Education Association as the receipent of the prestigious NEA Foundation Teaching Excellence Award.
Freeman is an active member of the NC Professional Teaching Standards Commission and is Chair of the NC Foundation for Public School Children as well.
